Borussia Dortmund

A special thank-you | bvb.de

Borussia Dortmund’s final Bundesliga performance against Hertha BSC (2-1) was pure goosebumps. The departures of Marcel Schmelzer after 17 years as a BVB player and Michael Zorc after 44 years as a player and sporting director reduced the protagonists themselves – as well as officials, players, fans and staff – to tears. Chief executive officer Hans-Joachim Watzke said a big thank-you to everyone who was involved on this emotional afternoon.

“Saturday,” Watzke declared, “showed us all once again what fortitude our BVB possesses”.

He felt it was “very honourable” that the spectators remained in their seats after the final whistle, saying: “I’d like to thank them very much for that. It was an incredible goosebumps atmosphere, and all of us at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK really enjoyed this sense of unity.”

Watzke extended a special thank-you to the ultras “for a wonderful choreo”. Speaking the next day, the chief executive officer reiterated: “I was once again extremely proud to be part of this extraordinary club.”
