Conte guided the Nerazzurri to the Serie A title at the end of last season, but was swiftly out of the door at the San Siro thanks to a row over the club’s direction.

He subsequently held talks with Tottenham and was close to being named as Jose Mourinho’s successor, only for 11th hour talks regarding short-term trophy prospects seeing the agreement fall through.

Conte has already been mooted as a potential replacement for both Mikel Arteta at Arsenal and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.

He claims that the manager will only accept a winning project, believing that Arsenal are still some way away from being a title contender.

United meanwhile, appear to have all the talent in place to make a serious tilt at the Premier League crown, after bringing in Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

But following their dismal defeat in Switzerland, talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy slammed Solskjaer urging Old Trafford bosses to make a switch in the dugout.

“That there shows he’s utterly clueless,” Cundy told talkSPORT of the result in Bern. “That performance, the team shape… they went down to 10 men, yes, but come on.

“They went to five at the back and he didn’t change it. They were getting overrun in the middle of the park.
