Barcelona: Jordi Alba on Barcelona’s salary reduction: This year, the club hasn’t called me

Jordi Alba will be at the World Cup with Spain. The full-back, who was included in Luis Enrique‘s list, is set for his third World Cup in Qatar.

“I hope we can win the trophy, although it will be tough,” he said in an interview with Mundo Deportivo in which he spoke about the current situation of Barcelona and the national team.

He couldn’t have a better opinion of Luis Enrique. “For me, I have always said, he is the best coach in the world. Not only on the football field, but also on the human field. He’s very approachable and helps all his teammates and that’s important for all the players and for me,” he says.

As to whether the criticism the coach receives could affect him, Alba doesn’t believe that will be the case.

“I don’t think it will affect him. Criticism nowadays is the most normal thing in the world. Not only at Barcelona, but also in any team. Luis Enrique is immune to that,” he said.

Salaries

Alba then spoke about the situation with his club. In particular, he referred to the words of president Joan Laporta in the Assembly in which he said that there were footballers who had not wanted to lower their salaries.

“I saw it, but I don’t know which players he was referring to,” he said.

“I can tell you about myself. Whenever the club has asked me to help, I have always responded and tried to help at all times. It has always been like that.

“This year, the club hasn’t called me. I can only say that when they have asked me to help, I have helped. The fact that I’m from here, Catalan, from Barcelona and I know what the club is about, makes me always want to help the club. I’ve always wanted to.

“And if they ask me, I’ll always be there to try to do so,” he affirms.

He also assured that his desire is to continue at the club: “I want to stay and retire at Barcelona.”
