FIFA are pushing forward with plans to introduce tighter regulations on football agents which could jeopardise big-money moves for Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

World football’s governing body held a two-day meeting with agency bodies in Montevideo, Uruguay earlier this week to discuss their proposed reforms amid an ongoing industry backlash and threats of legal action.

Among the most controversial recommendations is a cap of three percent on commission earned by agents representing players during transfers.

FIFA are also aiming to ban the common practice of agents simultaneously representing both club and player in a single transaction.

A number of prominent agents have argued that these measures would disproportionately affect organisations who look after less high-profile clients.

They also insist that dual representation can often be key to getting difficult deals over the line.

Kylian Mbappe has lined up alongside Leo Messi for PSG this season but has been strongly linked with Real Madrid

Disagreements over such matters led to Mesut Ozil’s representative, Erkut Sogut, withdrawing from the consultation process earlier this week.

Sogut, who negotiated what was the biggest Premier League contract of all-time when his client signed fresh terms with Arsenal in January 2018, has also resigned his role as vice-president of the Professional Football Agents Association (PROFAA).

FIFA’s refusal to budge on their proposed commission cap is believed to be the main driver of his decision.

Despite industry dissent, FIFA are committed to introducing their agency reforms in time for the summer transfer window.

Borussia Dortmund striker Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain forward Mbappe have both been linked with moves at the end of the current season.

Haaland is reportedly edging closer to completing a move to the Premier League.

The Norwegian has starred for Dortmund since joining the Bundesliga side two years ago and possesses a remarkable record in front of goal, scoring 80 times in just 79 games in all competitions.

Despite suffering a significant hip injury earlier this season, he has continued to fire in an astonishing amount of goals for the Black and Yellow, keeping Marco Rose’s side in the title race.

Haaland’s form has attracted the interest of a range of clubs across Europe, including Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.

But the Premier League rivals were also thought to be in competition with Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and Bayern Munich.

France international Mbappe is expected to move to Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract with PSG expires this summer.

Mbappe is Los Blancos No.1 target, with Madrid president Florentino Perez desperate to take the 23-year-old to the Spanish capital for nothing.

Since January 1, the World Cup winner has been free to negotiate and sign a pre-contract agreement, with reports that a five-year deal, worth £200million, has already been signed.

Mbappe, booed at points this season by PSG fans, has been in excellent form during a somewhat turbulent campaign for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and was again on target in Sunday’s 5-1 thrashing of Lille, his 19th goal of the season for PSG.
